Much of<br>the labs work is creating computation models of very human ideals such as<br>expression, emotion, behavior and creativity. The work has also been<br>exhibited in major museums, including the Whitney Museum, the MIT Museum,<br>and the Smithsonian.<br><br>*****************<br>PRESENTATION<br>*****************<br><br>Computational Art Portraiture in the Age of Virtuality<br><br>Steve DiPaola will demonstrate his authoring process and final still,<br>installation and performance works shown worldwide centered on finding<br>a new meaning for abstract portraiture in a new media context. From<br>his 1988 Kraftwerk art video work and work with Nam June Paik to new<br>works that use AI to extract emotion from music that drive spherically<br>projected portrait installations or evolve a family tree of portrait<br>painting programs. These systems both use notions of human creativity<br>using in Artificial Intelligence to make a computer system creative on<br>its own and in use in cognitive science vision studies with<br>internationally discussed results showing the genius of portrait<br>artists like Rembrandt from a science perspective. Steve's work<br>delves into human-ness versus artifact in new media portraiture.
