MILES THOROGOOD BIO
Miles Thorogood is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in the design and
development of adaptive and interactive artwork systems. Employing
generative algorithms in the creation of sound and graphics, along with
electronics and traditional media, these systems explore convergences
between the body, environments and technology.
His current research interests include artificial intelligence and semantic
representations of media in the broader context of understanding creativity.
As a PhD student at SFU School of Interactive Art and Technology, his
research is concentrating toward the development of creative computational
systems for exploring soundscapes. Specifically, Miles is investigating
system design for autonomous management of online soundscape archives with
natural language processing, and models for representation of environmental
sound. His research interests include abstracted representations of creative
processes, systems design, and the creative application of artificial
intelligence systems.
LOCATION
SFU downtown in the Goldcorp Centre for the Arts at 149 West Hastings street
in room 3420, the third floor electroacoustic studio. There's great tech
available here and more space than in my apartment. But food and drink are
not permitted in the studio. After Miles's talk and the discussion, let's
head out to a nearby place.
