I'm happy to announce that Christopher Anderson will be presenting his work
to the Group of X on Fri Mar 28 at 7pm.
Christopher Anderson is a recent master of fine arts graduate, sessional
instructor and research assistant in the School of Contemporary Arts at
Simon Fraser University in Vancouver British Columbia. He is a composer and
performer with a background in both traditional and electroacoustic music.
His interests include exploring new approaches to interactive music
performance and the use of generative systems within composition. Much of
his recent work has been in assisting a generative music project, the
Generative Electronica Research Project (GERP), within the Metacreation,
Multi-Agent Systems lab (MAMAS) at SFU. Christopher recently presented some
of this work at the October 2013 AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence
and Interactive Digital Entertainment, Music Metacreation workshop in
Boston. He also writes electronic music related articles for the online
magazine PopMatters.
For this Group of X meeting he will be discussing the use of generative
systems in live mixed media performance and how they relate to his practice.
He will demonstrate some of his MFA thesis work as well as some systems that
have emerged from his work as a research assistant with MAMAS at SFU. He
will also be looking at how some corpus based algorithmic processes can
provide some interesting results for use in live performance and in music
studio production practices. Some areas of live performance aesthetics such
as ephemerality will also be discussed.
