PATRICK LICHTY
*****************************

Patrick Lichty will talk to the group of x Friday July 1 at 7pm at 805-4350 Beresford St, Burnaby.

Patrick Lichty is an artist, cultural theorist, curator, and activist who has been engaged with digital culture since 1989. His main interest is that of the effects of mediation and virtuality on the way society perceives reality. He has been/is part of numerous collectives, such as RTMark, The Yes Men, Terminal Time, Haymarket Riot, Second Front, and Virtual Fluxus. His work has been part of ISEA, Ars Electronica, Transmediale, the Whitney Biennial, and he is in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Museum of American Art. He is currently living in Dubai, and is in Vancouver this month archiving the work of telematics artists in the region for his project, Slow Scan Media Arts Archive.

For this evening's talk, Patrick will touch on his media art and electronic text works, and discuss his current research concerning Slow Scan TV and the work done in the 70¹s and 80¹s at Open Space and Western Front.

It's interesting that Patrick, an international new media guy, is here to do research on some local new media history that many locals don't know much about. I have heard about Bill Bartlett and the work Patrick is researching many times but don't really know much about it. I look forward to hearing about it and also about some of Patrick's other projects.
