This sounds very much like a case of "missing xtra(s)". To find out what
exactly is missing, I would suggest to try this:

a) create a folder called "xtras" next to your standard projector

b) copy the following 5 (i.e. all audio-related) xtras from
  /Applications/Adobe Director 12/Configuration/Xtras/...
to this new "xtras" folder:

AudioMixer.xtra
CoreAudioMix.xtra
Mix Services.xtra
Sound Control.xtra
Sound Import Export.xtra

If your movie(s) deals with either SWA files, SWA/MP3 streaming, MP3
files or internal MP3 compression, also copy those:

MPEG 3 Import Export.xtra
SWA Decompression PPC Xtra.xtra
SWA Import Export.xtra
SWA Streaming PPC Xtra.xtra

c) Start your projector and check if there is audio now. If yes, you can
remove consecutively xtras from the folder and restart the projector to
find out which are really needed at runtime.
