While I am weary of google's unprecedented access to so much personal
information, G+ is the only social network I participate in I just
provide very little machine readable personal information, leaving
google to attempt to make sense of my posts. I would not touch FB.
There is a portland electronic art group with 7 people in it (me
included), so a vancouver electronic art group would likely not get out
of hand. I'm also in an AI group with ~9000 members.
So I'd be happy to see a presence on G+, but all social networks are
embedded in issues around privacy and marketing / tracking.
I think old-school mailing-list discussions are also useful and perhaps
not all that different when it comes to asynchronous discussion.
